hvMechWarrior-v12 was the first release of the
hvMechWarrior series of mods co-written for Tribes by myself
and "hvHelplessTarget". It was created with the intent of bringing the
atmosphere and tactics of FASA's Battletech/MechWarrior universe
to the game Tribes. hvMechWarrior is not a replacement for
any of the MechWarrior PC games, but a new style of combat for
Tribes that requires more strategic thought than "Base" without
cheesy super-weapons that plague other mods.
Disclaimer: It is my
intention, as co-author of the hvMechWarrior mod, not to interfere with any of
the Mechwarrior products produced by Activision, FASA or Microprose, but, rather
to give their eforts a new market through Tribes, It is my hope that the
hvMechWarrior mod will bring a new combat experience to player of Tribes and
that this experience will increase interest in the Mechwarrior series PC games
as well as the Battletech RPG.
FYI for new hvMechWarrior players:
- You can download my hvMechWarrior skins
HERE, to enhance your playing enjoyment.
- Mechs are large robots controlled by pilots located within the Mech's
cockpit. Mechs are tougher than the "armors" found in "Base", and take more
punishment to defeat.
- The blue "energy bar" now represents your Coolant Level. The more blue
displayed, the cooler your Mech. If your Mech overheats, you will be unable to
fire most weapons or Jump Jet until your Heat Sinks cool off your Mech.
- Nearly all weapons generate heat, as does Jump Jetting, which will alter one's
tactical decisions. It is best to keep closer to the ground, "hopping" rather
than "leaping" over enemy fire.
- Jump Jets generate more vertical than horizontal thrust, making it
easier to scale high obstacles.
- Jump Jet Boosters exist on all Mech types and will thrust one's Mech
upward (if standing still), or horizontally (if moving) simply by pressing one's
"Beacon" button (usually "B").
hvMechWarrior-v12 is no longer available for download, due to the existence of the newer and far better hvMechWarrior-v14.
